Our Partners
Charles S. (Steve) Smith, CPA, graduated from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. After graduation, he was employed with the audit staff of Cannon Mills Company in Kannapolis until 1973. He then entered public practice and served on the staff of Robert A. McClary, CPA. In 1981, the firm McClary, Stocks and Smith, PA was formed. With 40 years of experience in public accounting, Steve specializes in small business management and consulting as well income tax preparation for businesses and individuals. .
Sherry B. Dendy, CPA graduated from Western Carolina University in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation she accepted a job at Cannon Mills Company in Kannapolis where she worked for 22 years in various capacities, including Division Controller. In 2004, Sherry moved from the private accounting sector to the public accounting sector when she joined the firm, becoming a partner in 2007. Sherry specializes in: small business and non-profit management and consultation; income tax return preparation for small businesses, non-profits, and individuals and QuickBooks administration.
Our History
Robert McClary initially started the firm when he went into public practice circa 1957. The subsequent firm, McClary, Stocks and Smith, PA was formed in 1981. With the eventual retirement of Robert McClary and Lester Stocks, and the addition of partners Marjorie Campbell and Sherry Dendy the firm has evolved into our firm as it is today. The tradition of integrity and professionalism for which we have always stood remains strong.
Our Credentials
Our firm participates in the Peer Review program prescribed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants. Our firm was last reviewed in May, 2018. The resulting report stated that all of our accounting practices and procedures complied with or exceeded the standards of the industry.
